We kindly request that you make a payment to us in order to download our products.
This enables us to continue to have an income which in turn means we can further develop the products and provide timely (sometimes immediate!) support for them on a full time basis (Our website is 100% of our income, we do this as a full time legal vocation and not a hobby). If customers don't pay for downloading our components then we will be forced to take on more "alternative full time employment" to cover our bills which means less time to spend on Joomla development.
However, we trust our customers - we do not enforce strict conditions on our customers - we show this by never encrypting our code and never forcing our code to be locked to a single domain - unlike many of our commercial competitors. (and we have not ever since we started in 2002!)
Our code is not encrypted at all - some files have been compressed (like Javascript files) but the originals are right next to them in uncompressed form - you are free to make what ever changes your site requires. If you make a major change why not share it with us and we may include it in a later version.
This is what you get for your payment:
- Installation Support and Help
- Answers to all requests for support - No limit
- Free updates and upgrades for the life of the project
- A certified & qualified, Zend PHP5 Engineer working on your site, to help you resolve issues when they arise
- Knowledge that your payment helps to provide food and accommodation so that we can continue to develop great Joomla products and services.
- Our income also frees us up to work on yet-more GPL, open source and Free software.
- Access to our downloads area
- Emails regarding other great Joomla Extensions.
- Telephone support - on request
- 24hr Security Response, if security issues found.
- For additional fees, you get access to one of the best Joomla Experts around...
I trust this answers your question clearly. In short, we like to keep our code open, unencrypted, actively developed and full time supported, the only way that we can continue doing this is if customers show their commitment in return by paying for the downloads as often as they can.
We have always trusted our customers to "do the right thing" with our products and our income - in return we work as hard as we can on innovative new products and speedy support, I hope this can continue well into 2009 :-)
